Objective
This project will deliver modern, purpose-built infrastructure to provide Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC) with reliable, secure facilities at Shirley's Bay Campus with a view to integrating DRDC’s science and technology teams with essential operational support resources, as well as providing layered physical security to successfully deliver the Ottawa Research Centre’s (ORC’s) mandate. It will contribute to the federal government mandate to rebuild Canada for the 21st Century through green building strategies to improve portfolio sustainability.
Requirements
The project will address infrastructure, health and safety, environmental and security concerns that currently impact the DRDC ORC’s operational effectiveness. The facility will be designed to latest codes, standards and regulations for research and development functions and provide sustainable and resilient building systems and infrastructure to support evolving and future demands in defence research. DND currently owns and occupies approximately 40 buildings and structures amounting to approximate 15,300m2 gross building space. The new DRDC ORC facility will have an estimated 21,135m2 gross building space to meet the ORC’s capability needs.
